about SkinPen microneedling treatment
SkinPen is not your average microneedling treatment. It is the only mechanical microneedling device to hold all 4 certifications: FDA-approved, CE Mark, ISO certified & British Standards Institute certified. It is a firm favourite at KinDRed Clinic for good reason- it harnesses the skin’s own healing response to boost collagen and naturally treat wrinkles, scars, pigmentation, enlarged pores and stretch marks.
Microneedling is also known as collagen-induction therapy because it can increase the collagen in your skin by 400% and continues to boost collagen and elastin for months after your treatment.
Microneedling is a procedure which creates temporary microscopic channels in the skin. This microtrauma activates the body’s natural skin-healing process to increase collagen and elastin. Your skin returns to a healthier, smoother and tighter appearance with softer lines and less discoloration. This process is called skin-remodelling.
SkinPen is a great treatment if you want to improve the appearance, architecture and health of your skin. It is perfect if you want a tangible improvement but you’re not ready for other injectable aesthetic treatments. If you are already having treatments such as botulinum toxin or dermal fillers, it is a great accompanying treatment because a combination approach is likely to give you a much better overall result.

“I’d highly recommend Dr Chapman to anyone who wants to take a preventative approach to ageing. Her treatments are expertly provided with care, thorough knowledge and reassuring expertise. I have had several treatments and what I love is that no one can tell! But what they do say is how well I look, how great my skin is, and that I have a “youthful glow” – I’ll take that every day! I recently had the SkinPen and it was fantastic!
Highly recommend Dr Chapman – she’s brilliant!”

What can you expect at a SkinPen appointment?
The procedure will be explained to you and you will be given aftercare advice. The skin will be cleansed and a numbing cream applied. When the skin is numbed, the anaesthetic cream will be thoroughly removed. A special glide gel will be applied to your skin and then the SkinPen device expertly guided over the treatment area. SkinPen is extremely precise and different depths can be selected depending on the area and concerns.
Can I have SkinPen treatment in the summer?
Yes! SkinPen can be used at all times of year. Just be aware that you can’t use sunscreen for 24 hours after a treatment and you will need to be extra careful in the sun for 72 hours.
Does SkinPen hurt?
We normally apply a strong numbing cream prior to treatment and most people find SkinPen very comfortable. The skin can feel a little tight and sore for a few hours after procedure.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare before I have a SkinPen treatment?
Please stop all active and irritating skincare ingredients for 72hours before your treatment (eg. retinoids, tretinoin, vitamin C serum, salicylic/glycolic/lactic acid).
Avoid having botulinum toxin and dermal fillers within 2 weeks before treatment.
Avoid sun excessive sun exposure/sunburn for a week before treatment.
Please arrive to your appointment with a clean, make-up free face if possible.
Is there any reason that I shouldn’t have a SkinPen treatment?
You should avoid SkinPen if you are pregnant/breast feeding, have an active skin infection/ skin cancer/sunburn in the treatment area, have a clotting disorder, taking an oral retinoid (eg.roaccutane, isotretinoin) currently or in the last 6 months or have active severe acne/pustules.
It IS safe on all skin tones – Fitzpatrick types I-VI. .
What can SkinPen treat?
The SkinPen has the following approved indications:
1) Acne scars
2) Fine lines and wrinkles (face and neck)
3) Surgical scars
4) Stretch marks
5) Pigmentation – age spots, vitiligo
6) Enlarged pores
Can SkinPen be used by women and men?
SkinPen is really popular no matter how you gender-identify.
It can be beneficial in all age groups and all skin types.
How many SkinPen treatments do I need?
If you have young, healthy skin and you simply want to improve texture and skin elasticity, you may find that a single treatment will work well.
However, if you have more significant skin concerns such as deeper static wrinkles, pigmentation, acne scarring or stretch marks, then a course of 3 – 4 treatments, 1 month apart is advisable.
How do I maintain my results?
After an initial treatment or course of treatments, you will usually be advised to have a single treatment every 6 months to maintain optimum results.
If you absolutely love SkinPen, it is safe to have treatments as frequently as every 4-6 weeks long term.
How much does SkinPen cost?
The cost of treatment is from £250 for one treatment (full face). A course of 3 treatments is £665. The treatment price includes complimentary aftercare products.
Full pricing can be found here.
What about home microneedling devices and microneedling rollers?
At KinDRed Clinic, we advise against home microneedling devices. This is because the needles are often of poorer quality so they “tear” the skin and cause excessive damage. The needle depth can usually not be altered on home devises and therefore it will not be able to treat specific skin concerns or different areas of the face/body effectively. There are also concerns about the lack of sterility and potential for infection with home devices.
We do not advise microneedling rollers due to the way that they enter the skin and cause unnecessary tearing of the skin (SkinPen uses perpendicular movements to create controlled channels).
People who have used a home microneedling device and then had a SkinPen treatment state that there is no comparison!
